Choosing Local Organic Foods

The Benefits of Choosing Local Organic Foods

On the subject of the foods that you buy, you may not know it, but they can have a negative impact on the earth. Although most individuals have never considered that the food that they get can have this effect. However, the foods we consume can be having a negative effect on the earth in more than one way. In this post we will be describing how common foods that you purchase in a grocery store can be hurting our planet.

If your grocery stores want food, this food has to be delivered, and that would mean lots of trucks burning fuel to get it there, and it can also be trucked from different parts of the country. Not surprisingly there may also be food which has been imported from Canada, Mexico and other countries. You must also know that the further away the food is, the more fuel it is going to take to get this food to our food markets. First the food will need to go from the particular farms to a distribution center which is done by truckers burning fuel. And then once the food has passed inspection, it will be delivered to the numerous grocery store distribution centers. And more fuel is needed again for the trucks to be able to deliver this food stuff. The food is then packed on the trucks for one more trip and the food winds up getting transported to our local shopping stores. You’ve probably undoubtedly guessed that additional fuel is being used up once again to make this happen.

Even though this is of course damaging to the atmosphere, there is yet another way we are causing the pollution of our planet. Almost every single one of these farms that will grow the food are using chemical compounds on the foods to enable them to get the best crop as they can. A few of the things that farmers use are numerous chemical fertilizers and also other forms of chemicals that they use in order to get bigger crops. When the chemical substances are sprayed on the vegetation you will find that these chemicals will not only end up polluting our air but also our soil. One other thing you should think about is that no matter how much you wash these items, there will always be trace quantities of these chemicals in the food itself as it is brought up by the roots and also absorbed the foods.

Nevertheless it doesn’t end with the various kinds of chemical fertilizers as other chemicals are also sprayed on our foods. Chemical pesticides or herbicides that are nothing more than a sort of poison, will also be put on all of the foods. And naturally these pesticides will also be sprayed on, again, damaging our air and our soil. Certainly this poison that is meant to kill bugs is also on the actual food that people are going to eat.. Although the government claims these foods that are OK to eat, the fact that they had poison sprayed on them, will make me wonder.

Obviously if you end up buying organically grown foods from local farmers, you will end up having a positive effect on the planet. You’ll actually be minimizing the amount of food that needs to be trucked in. Not forgetting when these types of huge farms wind up having to produce less food, that means a lesser amount of chemicals that will be making their way into our atmosphere, soil and foods. When you care about the earth and your health, getting locally grown organic foods can help both. Choosing To Only Buy Organic And Local Food Can Help Our Planet

When it comes to the foods that you buy, you may not realize it, but they can have a negative impact on the earth. You have probably never even thought about this but the foods you buy really can impact our planet. However, the foods we eat can be having a negative effect on our planet in more than one way. Here we want to talk about some of the effects you can reduce by buying locally grown organic foods.

One thing that you may never have given much thought to is that in order to get the foods to the grocery stores it is usually trucked in from all over the country. But it doesn’t end there as Americans will also ship in foods from different countries. This will cause loads of fuels to be used before this food finally ends up in our stores. To begin with the farmers have to send the food to centers for distribution, and this requires the use of trucks that use fuel. The food is then sent from here to the grocery stores warehouse where the foods get inspected again and made ready to be sent out to all the stores. This of course will require the use of more fuel for the trucks delivering the food. Now the food has almost ended it journey, the last thing to do is to load up new trucks with this food and ship it to the stores. And as you already know this goes back to trucks burning even more fuel.

You should also realize that the fuel is not the only way we are polluting our planet. All of these farms will be using chemicals on the food to help them get a better crop. Chemical fertilizers are not the only hazard as these farmers will also be using other chemicals for the purpose of making sure the crops they are growing will be as big as possible. These chemicals are typically sprayed on which ends up polluting our air and our soil. The other thing you should consider is that no matter how much you wash these items, there will always be trace amounts of these chemicals in the food itself as it is brought up by the roots and absorbed the foods.

You may already know this but these fertilizers are not the only chemical that ends up in our foods, in our atmosphere and in the soil. Most of these farms will also use chemical pesticides to kill and bugs that may negatively effect their crop. And the same as the other chemicals they will spray these poisons on causing them to go into the atmosphere and soil. Needless to say this poison that is meant to kill bugs is also on the actual food that we are going to eat.. And while the government says these foods that are OK to eat, the fact that they had poison sprayed on them, makes me wonder.

If you decide to only by organic food which has been harvested locally you can do your part to help with this pollution. You will actually be reducing the amount of food that needs to be trucked in. Also by making sure that all the food you buy is organic you will not only be helping your overall health, but you will be helping by not contributing to the farmers that are using these chemicals. So if you care about the planet and your health, buying locally grown organic foods will help both.
